Founded in 2006, currently around 67 students of Mechanical Department are members of SAEINDIA Collegiate Club. The purpose of the SAE society is:

  • To enhance the knowledge base of members who are mobility practitioners within India.
  • To provide to its member’s access to SAE International programs and services globally enabling them to practice world class standard in productivity and quality.
  • To develop technical and scientific reports and engineering standards for the benefit of mankind.
  • To provide a forum for members to informally exchange views and ideas.
  • The society organizes various events to promote various ability developments amongst students and provide them a platform to implement their creation. Competitions like Supra SAEINDIA, Baja SAE INDIA, Efficycle SAE INDIA are some of the events organised by SAE society.

Collegiate Club help the students in managing their team with their objective. MAIT SAEINDIA Collegiate Club is having two teams for participating in Baja SAE and SAE efficycle events. Every year students participate in various national and International events under the team name of Team Jatayu’ and ‘Team Eendhan’.

2012-13

In the year 2012, a pioneering group of 15-20 aspiring mechanical engineers from MAIT took the first steps towards realizing their automotive passion.

  • The seeds of innovation were sown as these students came together to establish Team Jatayu, a SAE Collegiate Club. With a shared vision of pushing the boundaries of engineering, they embarked on an ambitious project: designing and building a spark ignition engine-powered All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) or off-roader.
  • This marked the inception of a legacy that would shape the future of automotive engineering at MAIT. As the team delved into the complexities of vehicle design, fabrication, and testing, they laid the foundation for what would become a thriving community of automotive enthusiasts and skilled engineers.

2012 2013

2013-14

With an unwavering passion for engineering and off-road racing, Team Jatayu persisted on its journey to conquer the challenging terrain of the Baja SAE India competition. The initial years were marked by intense learning and development as the team laid the groundwork for their future endeavours. With a core group of enthusiastic engineering students, they focused on understanding the intricacies of vehicle design, fabrication, and performance. Through rigorous research, analysis, and hands-on experience, the team honed their skills in areas such as engine selection, chassis design, suspension tuning, and manufacturing processes. This formative period was instrumental in building the team’s foundation and cultivating a spirit of innovation and determination.

2013 2014

2014-15

Team Matrixwas known for its groundbreaking work in the field of vehicle design and engineering. Their dedication and innovative approach led them to design and build the Efficycle, a project that highlighted their technical skills and creativity.

Design and Build: Team Matrix focused on creating the Efficycle, a cutting-edge vehicle emphasizing efficiency and performance. Their meticulous work in design and engineering resulted in a highly successful entry.

Victory: Their exceptional efforts were rewarded with a win in the competition, showcasing their ability to combine technical excellence with innovative solutions.

2015-16

Team Jatayu participated in Baja SAE India 2016, held in January at the Budh International Circuit in Greater Noida.They secured2nd place in both design and maneuverability, and 3rd place in cost, with strong performances in acceleration, weight pull, and endurance. These achievements culminated in an overall 6th place finish, solidifying their reputation as one of the leading teams in the competition. This competition offered a unique opportunity for professional growth, with six team members receiving job offers from industry giants such as Mahindra & Mahindra, ARAI, and Varroc.

This year also embarked a journey of a new club “Team Ashoka”, another key player in the competition, worked alongside Team Matrix on the Efficycle project. Their expertise and innovative approach were crucial in the vehicle's development.

2015 2016

Design and Build: Team Ashoka played a significant role in the creation of Efficycle, bringing their engineering skills and creative insights to the project.

Victory: Their collaboration with Team Matrix resulted in a winning performance, underlining their capability in developing high-performing and efficient vehicles.

2016-17

Team Jatayu competed in Enduro Student India 2017, held from the 4th to 9th in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The team showcased their engineering excellence, securing notable positions across several categories, including 7th in ATV weight, 5th in acceleration, 9th in sprint, and 13th in endurance, ultimately placing 10th overall. This performance set the tone for the rest of the year, proving that the team was a force to be reckoned with on the national stage.

2016 2017

In February 2017, the team participated in the prestigious BAJA SAE India event from the 14th to 21st at NATRIP, Indore. This competition was a defining moment for the club, as they won the 'Go Green' event, earning a prize of ₹1,10,000. The team also secured the 2nd position in overall dynamics and suspension & traction, 5th in manoeuvre, 6th in acceleration, 10th in design, and 7th overall. The recognition extended beyond awards, with one team member being recruited by Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), showcasing the club’s potential to produce industry-ready engineers.

Building on this momentum, the team went on to compete in the Mega ATV 2017 event in Ahmednagar, Nasik. Here, they achieved first place in the Flat Dirt Race, second in the Drag Race, third in Armageddon, and fourth in Endurance, ultimately finishing third overall. Their outstanding performance was rewarded with a prize of ₹1,80,000 further cementing their reputation as a top contender in engineering competitions.

In a significant milestone, the SAE Club represented on the international stage at the BAJA SAE International event held from 27th to 30th April 2017 in California, USA. Led by Vikas Sharma and Pratham, the team faced fierce competition and, though they did not secure top positions, gained invaluable experience and exposure at an international level.

2017-18

Team Kalam participated in the SAENIS Efficycle 2017 event, held at Lovely Professional University from the 1st to 5th. Led by Ishan, a team of 12 members represented MAIT in this competition, gaining valuable experience and insight despite facing stiff competition.

Team Jatayu participated in Enduro Student India (ESI) 2018, held from the 4th to 7th in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Under the leadership of Mrinal, the team excelled across various categories, securing 1st place overall and earning the title of "Champion 2018". Their impressive performance included 2nd place in Weight and Design, 4th in Manoeuvrability, 7th in Endurance, 9th in Dirt-X, 10th in Acceleration, and 13th in Cost, accompanied by a prize of ₹1,40,000.

2017 2018

the team also competed in Mega ATV 2018 from 24th to 26th February in Ahmednagar, Nasik. Once again led by Mrinal, the team delivered a strong performance, securing 2nd place in the Flat Dirt Race, 4th in Endurance, and 6th in both the Drag Race and Armageddon Race.

In April 2018, Team Jatayu represented MAIT on an international platform at the BAJA SAE International event in Maryland, USA, from the 19th to 22nd. Competing against some of the best teams worldwide, the club, led by Mrinal and Jatin, achieved commendable rankings, including 8th in Acceleration, 10th in Hill Climb, and 30th overall. The experience gained at this global event was invaluable and further motivated the team to continue pushing the boundaries of their capabilities.

On 19th May 2018, Team Kalamparticipated in the Tata Motors MindRover competition in Pune, where they secured 2nd place. Led by Ishan Singh, the team earned a prize of ₹75,000 and a prestigious Pre-Placement Offer from Tata Motors, further elevating the reputation of the SAE Club at MAIT.

2018-19

Team Jatayu participated in the FMAE BAJA 2018 from August 1st to 5th, 2018. This competition allowed them to design, build, and race off-road vehicles, offering a hands-on experience in automotive engineering.

The department organized a workshop on Advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Simulation on October 5th, 2018. This workshop provided students with a deeper understanding of simulation techniques, allowing them to analyse fluid flow, heat transfer, and related phenomena—skills critical for their future careers.

In October, Team Kalamparticipated at the SAENIS Effi-Cycle2018, held from the 9th to the 13th. This competition emphasized eco-friendly engineering, requiring participants to design and fabricate a highly efficient, human-powered hybrid vehicle.

Team Jatayu participated in the SAEINDIA BAJA 2019 from January 23rd to 27th. Their participation in this event underscored their ability to apply engineering principles under pressure and demonstrated their teamwork and problem-solving skills.

The session concluded with Team Kalam’s participation in the SAEINDIA SUPRA 2019, held from July 15th to 20th. This highly competitive event challenged teams to design, build, and compete with formula-style vehicles, pushing their creativity and technical knowledge to the limit.

2019-20

The session began with Team Kalam’s participation in the SAENIS Effi-Cycle 2019, held from October 1st to 5th.

Team Jatayu participated in the SAEINDIA BAJA 2020, from January 22nd to 26th. Their impressive results not only brought pride to the department but also led to two students being recruited byAnand Automobile Pvt. Ltd., a clear indication of the industry’s recognition of their skills and the practical experience they had gained.

2019 2020

Team Jatayu participated in the Enduro Student India 2020, from February 6th to 10th. They secured 1st place in Design Validation, 2nd place in Maneuverability, 3rd place in the Cost Event, 9th place in Endurance, and 4th place overall, earning a prize of Rs. 20,000/-.

The session reached a global milestone with Team Jatayu representing India at the SAE International event in Arizona, USA, from May 27th to June 4th, 2020. This prestigious event offered the team international exposure and the opportunity to compete against some of the best engineering minds from around the world. Despite the challenges of preparing for an international competition, Team Jatayu displayed resilience and determination, solidifying their reputation as a team capable of competing on the world stage.

 2020-21

Despite the unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the department remained steadfast in its commitment to student engagement and learning. Through various online platforms, they ensured that skill development and educational progress continued uninterrupted, reflecting the department's dedication to excellence.

2020 2021

The session began with a webinar organized by the SAEINDIA MAIT Club on September 17th, 2020, focusing on BS6 technology in commercial vehicles. The session provided students with deep insights into the challenges and advancements associated with this transition, especially within the commercial vehicle sector.

Following the webinar, Team Kalam participated in the SAENIS Effi-Cycle 2020 competition, held from September 17th to 27th, 2020. This event, conducted in a virtual format due to the pandemic, challenged students to design and simulate a highly efficient, human-powered hybrid vehicle.

Team Kalam also participated in the Formula Bharat 2021 competition, which took place from January 23rd to February 21st, 2021.. The 2021 event was conducted in a hybrid format, blending virtual presentations with physical prototype testing.

2021-22

Team Jatayu, with their wings spread wide, embarked on a mission to dominate every challenge that came their way. The team’s crowning achievement came at the FMAE BAJA 2021 in Hyderabad, where they didn't just participate; they conquered. Emerging as the overall champions, Team Jatayu clinched the 1st rank and walked away with a prize of ₹1,00,000. Their dominance didn't stop there—they also earned top honors in Suspension and Traction, Rock Climb, and Endurance events, adding another ₹35,000 to their winnings, bringing their total prize haul to ₹1,35,000. Team Jatayu proved that when passion meets precision, no obstacle is too great to overcome.

Once again, Team Jatayu proved their mettle by securing 3rd place in Dynamic Maneuvering at the SAEINDIA BAJA in Indore.

Team Kalam led with vision and innovation. At the EV Expo 2021, Team Kalam showcased their self-designed combustion vehicle—a symbol of their innovative spirit and technical expertise.

Team Kalam’s innovation shone brightly in the SAEINDIA NIS Efficycle 2021, where they secured the 1st Runner-Up position in Dynamic Evaluation and earned the title of Best Design Compliance.Their All-India Rank of 4th was a remarkable achievement, reflecting their deep understanding of design principles and their ability to execute them flawlessly.

2022-23

The year began with Kalam Motorsports participating in SUPRA SAEINDIA Student Formula 2022 from August 22nd to 25th. They competed in static events, focusing on engineering and problem-solving. The team then participated in Formula Imperial Season 8.0, held at the Budh International Circuit in Greater Noida from August 26th to 30th.

2022 2023

The crowning achievement came at the Aravalli Terrain Vehicle Championship (ATVC) 2023 - Season 06. Team Jatayu soared to new heights, securing an impressive All India Rank of 2nd. This remarkable performance earned them a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/-, a testament to their hard work and commitment. Their success wasn't limited to just one area—they triumphed across the board, securing 1st place in the Design Event, 3rd in the Endurance race, and 1st in the Best Captain category. This victory not only brought pride to the team but also highlighted the exceptional leadership and design capabilities nurtured within the club.

The SAEINDIA Collegiate Club also took on the role of educators, sharing their knowledge and expertise with their peers. On February 7th, 2024, they organized a Workshop on Adhesive Technology, providing students with valuable insights into this critical area of engineering. This workshop was a reminder of the club's commitment to continuous learning and skill development.

2023-24

From Mechanical to Electrical: Team Jatayu's Journey in eBAJA SAE India 2024

Team Jatayu embarked on a transformative journey from mechanical to electrical ATV by participating in the eBAJA SAE India 2024 competition, held at BVRIT, Hyderabad, from March 6th to 9th, 2024. Under the leadership of Captain and Driver SakshamAnand, the team, faced significant challenges throughout the event. These included brake issues, a damaged differential, and battery problems during the endurance round. Despite these setbacks, the team exhibited remarkable resilience and determination.

2023 2024

Their final standings in the competition were as follows:

  • 7th in Endurance
  • 8th in Sledge Pull
  • 15th in Sales Presentation (SNT)
  • 19th Overall

Team Eendhan’s Success at IKR Season 8.0

Team Eendhan, representing MAIT with their first-ever electric go-kart, made a significant mark in Indian motorsport history by participating in the Indian Karting Race (IKR) Season 8.0. The event, held atthe prestigious Buddh International Circuit in October 2023, showcased the team's exceptional talent and innovation.

As first-time participants, Team Eendhan achieved an impressive 4th overall rank, a testament to their skill and dedication. Their pioneering efforts in electric vehicle technology earned them the prestigious 'Future Innovation Award' and a prize of Rs. 5,000. Additionally, their outstanding endurance performance in the EV category secured them a well-deserved second-place finish.

The MAIT-SAEINDIA Collegiate Club is a prime example, having secured a Rs. 1 lakh grant from AICTE under the SPECIES program in 2020-21. The college's renowned racing team, Jatayu, has also demonstrated its ability to attract substantial funding. In 2018, the team received a Rs. 10 lakh grant from AICTE to participate in the USA SAE event. More recently, in 2024, Mitutoyo Pvt. Ltd. extended a Rs. 5 lakh grant to the team.
