REFRIGERATION AND AIR CONDITIONING LAB

Lab Incharge : Dr. Naveen Solanki

Lab Technician: Mr. Deepak Kumar

The Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Laboratory provides hands-on experience in understanding the principles, operation, and performance evaluation of various refrigeration and air conditioning systems. The lab is equipped with modern test facilities and instrumentation to facilitate experimentation on different refrigeration cycles, alternative refrigerants, and air conditioning processes. It aims to demonstrate the working principles of the vapor compression refrigeration system (VCRS), including its control and instrumentation components, and to develop thermodynamic models of VCRS to analyze the effects of evaporator and condenser temperatures using alternative refrigerants.

Key Equipment in the Lab:

  1. Refrigeration Test Rig
  2. Air Conditioning Test Rig
  3. Electrolux absorption refrigeration system
  4. IoT-Enabled Refrigeration and Heat Pump System
  5. Cascade Refrigeration System
  6. Ice-Slurry Test Rig
  7. Domestic Refrigerator Setup
  8. Refrigeration Cycle Analysis with EES Software
  9. Psychrometric Chart Analysis Setup
  10. Expansion Valve Demonstration Unit
  11. Control Devices Setup

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate the working principles of various components and control elements in a Vapor Compression Refrigeration System (VCRS).

  2. Calculate the impact of key operating parameters on the performance of a refrigeration system.

  3. Evaluate performance indicators such as Coefficient of Performance (COP), refrigerant flow rate, and compressor work for VCRS.

  4. Identify and recommend methods to enhance the performance and efficiency of refrigeration systems.

This laboratory provides a comprehensive understanding of refrigeration and air conditioning systems, enabling students to gain practical skills and analyze real-world applications.
