ROBOTICS SOCIETY OF MAIT

In the last few years Robotics activities in India have moved well beyond the traditional areas of industrial applications and entered newer domains of education, rehabilitation, entertainment, and even into our homes. Indian robotics researchers have similarly grown from a handful to over a hundred engaged in research labs, education, industry, etc.

Many of us feel that it is about time to form an academic society to further augment our robotics activities and for better interaction among ourselves. With this objective, the Robotics Society of MAIT was formed in February 2016. This society has been quite active since its inception and has organized many events and lectures, development programs and poster sessions.

Machinist: A Contest for Perfectionists

The competition commenced on 25 April 2024  with participants demonstrating their expertise in utilizing lathe machines to craft intricate components. Each participant was tasked with fabricating a designated component within a specified timeframe, under the scrutiny of experienced judges. Simultaneously, a short quiz was conducted to assess participants' theoretical understanding of machining concepts, including lathe machine operations, tool selection, material properties, and safety precautions. The quiz not only tested participants' knowledge but also provided an opportunity for intellectual engagement and learning.

Paper Presentation

Jayesh Nagpal, a member of society published his research titled “Novel Robotic Platform for Affordable and Customizable Testing and Prototyping” in Transdisciplinary Research and Education Center for Green Technologies, Kyushu University, 2023.

In this work, authors had  proposed a design of a robotic platform that is easier to manufacture and cheaper to build (totaling under USD 1000). The components used are easily available and are cheaper as compared to the components of currently available robotic solutions.
